The Speech

I’m leaving for South America tonight and am unsure about the sort of Internet connectivity I’ll experience. I’ll post as I can but wanted to leave you with a speech that makes me weep. Here is Ronald Reagan speaking on behalf of Barry Goldwater circa 1964. I’d like the viewer to consider the message against the current political environment. Pull out a book or two and verify the quotations then ponder the reasons we lost our way. And I’d like to point out how happy I am to know that it wasn’t too long ago that some Americans knew the truth about the “shot heard round the world;” it was at Concord, not Lexington and American patriots fired first.

American liberty was no accidental ideal; it was something our forefathers took for us and until we all relearn the lessons of history we’ll never truly know how dear that liberty can be.
