Maybe MADD should jump on this one

It’s now reported that people taking antidepressants drive worse than those who aren’t.

Depressed people on antidepressants such as Prozac, Paxil or Zoloft have even more trouble concentrating and reacting behind the wheel, researchers from the University of North Dakota said.

“Individuals taking antidepressants should be aware of the possible cognitive effects as (they) may affect performance in social, academic and work settings, as well as driving abilities,” the researchers wrote. “However, it appears that mood is correlated with cognitive performance, more so than medication use.”

Hmm, perhaps MADD needs to lay off us boozers and focus on the newest risk to the children- depressed folk. Of course then the problem might be a little closer to home for them.

Update: Just found MADD’s most current pressing issue.

College presidents from about 100 of the nation’s best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.

The movement called the Amethyst Initiative began quietly recruiting presidents more than a year ago to provoke national debate about the drinking age.

As I just paid the fees for Little Bit’s dorm for the semester, I have to say good for Amethyst Initiative for trying to bring some common sense into college drinking issues.
