Ron Paul takes 2nd in LA caucuses

The Louisiana GOP is reporting a second place showing for Congressman Ron Paul who was bested by John McCain. Technically, uncommited, pro-life took more delegates than anyone, but this has got to be music to the ears of Ron Paul and his supporters.

“Preliminary results show that a majority of the 105 state convention delegates who have been elected ran on a statewide pro-life uncommitted slate,” Villere said. “I congratulate the candidates and supporters of this group on their victory and look forward to working with them to keep our Party platform pro-life at the state and national conventions,” he said.

Delegate candidates endorsed by US Senator John McCain (R-AZ) appear to have won more state convention delegate positions than any other presidential slate at the Louisiana Caucuses.

“I offer my congratulations Senator John McCain on his success in the Louisiana caucuses,” Villere said. “Senator McCain is an American hero and this is further evidence that he enjoys strong support in Louisiana and throughout the South,” he said.

Supporters of Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) appear to have captured the next highest number of delegate positions.

“I applaud the supporters of Congressman Paul for their enthusiasm and superior organizational ability,” Villere said. “Our Party needs the infusion of new activists who have both political skill and a passion for protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us by the Constitution,” he said. “I left the caucus with a renewed commitment to promote our core Republican principles of limited government and individual freedom, thanks to the zeal displayed by Congressman Paul's Louisiana supporters,” Villere said.

Since Congressman Paul beat out Mitt Romney, I wonder if he’ll finally receive any mention from American MSM. It’s sort of sad that Russian news sources are covering the Ron Paul Revolution better than our own.

  1. …..music to my ears…

  2. The erosion of democracy is absolutely unbelievable.

  3. I actually like Ron and I hope he wins… He is the only one that is different and can make a difference.

  4. I wish that principled, small goverment conservatives had a chance.

  5. There was a great interview with him on Fox the other day… so if they’re actually going to break down and let him on THAT station to talk then we’re getting somewhere!! It’s a matter of more exposure at this point- how could you not like him?! Thanks for the Russian news clip- I didn’t think they would be covering this!

  6. Dear Politically Interested Blogger:

I enjoy Ron Paul and his Libertarian views. That said, I think the only reason he is probably thrilled today is because he is going to have an unbelievably massive federal piggy bank when he runs for Congress again after losing the nomination.

What would be great then is if all his loyal supporters started writing letters to their Congress Members urging them to support his proposed legislative agenda. Hopefully they will not lose interest in what he supports after he is out of the big race.

    Kindly,
    Peas

  7. Kucinich is out.

Could be good news for Ron Paul.

  8. Ron Paul is as qualified to be president of the United States as an autistic baboon with a schizophrenic disorder. That he won second place in Louisiana proves that.

  9. Callmeal has obviously not done his research. The Autistic Baboon with Schizophrenia is who we have in office NOW.

  10. Even if your statement on Ron Paul’s qualification were true, an autistic baboon with a mental disorder would be an improvement over what we’ve had of late. I like Ron Paul quite a bit but he’s not quite libertarian enough for me (see immigration). That said, I’m maxed out on campaign contributions and I’m hoping that the rest of the “republican” candidates keep dropping. The Ds have nothing to really offer (although Obama seems quite likable- his agenda scares me) and we all know that third party candidates haven’t a shot in Hell of winning the highest office in the land.

I believe in free speech so you can make as many asinine statements as you wish here at my site. It should be pointed out though that you know absolutely nothing about Ron Paul or the fine people of Louisiana.

  11. Good for Louisiana. Callmeal, it really is about doing some research, thats how I figured out that Paul is our only real hope for the country. Anyone else who is willing to take some serious time to study the Constitution, the words of the Founders, and recent news will begin to understand.

  12. Love it! This and nevada, now where getting somwhere! I know Ron can take 1st in California (my state) if we dont keep spreading the word, it seems noone else will! Check out http://www.hope4america.com for a complete Ron Paul Resource!

  13. Ron Paul is the best candidate for North America and it people.

    bye

  14. Were the LA caucuses even relevant? I know that Ron Paul is no longer relevant, but not because of the media. Some of his ideas are a bit out there, past left field. I surely hope he’s a better gyn than he is a politician trying to create logical public policy.

  15. Dr. Paul would have a legitimate chance of winning the general election if not for the brainwashed majority of america who feels that the elections are a game, who wins and loses. It would be a great misunderstanding if you were to interpret the general elction as a game. I mean this country was made from revolution and caring about the issues that really matter. Its crazy to just vote for the guy who is predicted the winner or the lady whos husband was allegedley a good president, vote for the guy who will deliver change and bring this nation back to glory. Its common sense. Do you have common sense?

  16. LA has official primaries on Feb 9.

  17. Common sense dictates that the electorate be informed as to their choices. I believe the electorate knows who is running and who has dropped out.

Common sense dictates that the electorate be informed as to the various positions candidates have with respect to the various issues. I believe many of the electorate is aware of the various positions Ron Paul has with respect to any number of issues.

It’s my personal belief that some of Ron Paul’s policy positions are so far out there that only Bill Lee would be proud. Many others in this country – and I do believe people are much much more informed this time around – share my beliefs and concerns about Ron Paul’s political positions.

This country has endured years of political turmoil because idiots control our government. We do not need someone who will add to that turmoil.

  18. my, my… the typical responses from people that bask in doing research and therefore their word is as bulletproof as the conclusions of a first year graduate student of a professor who is about to retire. But I digress. First, the “baboon” comment also applies to the current collective executive branch so Ron’s supporters want to replace one baboon with another. Second, Ron is a mutated libertarian strain with strong affiliations to the neo-confederate movement (aka the von Mises institute) who have serious issues with the outcome of the civil war. Do your research on that. Beyond the fact I am strongly anti-libertarian and believe in the role of the federal government in the life of its’ citizens is indispensable, the idea that a disillusioned neo-confederate who publicly endorsed Thomas DiLorenzo’s book “The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War” is a threat to the core values of this Union that millions of people shed their blood in preserving. The support for Ron Paul’s bid for the presidency is misguided and non-uniform. He is does not have a conservative record, he is Bill Maher’s new hero for Pete’s sake and he mainly attracts support from a wide range of people that most commonly do not support the war on Iraq and are isolationists in their philosophy. He is a candidate who can not and will not win any election because he has no base support and furthermore there is no uniform support for his political agenda, rather his supporters are nitpicking bits and pieces and you place them all in a big room and ask them to talk to each other no one would come alive out of there.

  19. cllmeal,
That you disagree with me is fine and healthy, but I’ve some comments about your response. First, don’t come into “my house” and be rude. Your first statement could easily be tossed back your way by those of us who disagree with you but it doesn’t solve our disagreement on the subject.

Ron Paul absolutely has a conservative record and is no isolationist. I do not care who else supports Ron Paul; my support of his candidacy is firmly rooted in a bit more than his status as a celebrity’s hero. The uniform support for his political agenda can be found in the basic ideas of freedom and individual autonomy. Anything outside of that is quibbling. And the issues of some (and certainly Ron Paul) regarding the outcome of the Civil War have nothing to do with slavery or ethnicity at all- you know that as well as I and that you choose to come here and spew untruths about a candidate and philosophy you think hasn’t a snowball’s chance in Hell is telling.

  20. I will not continue on this issue. I’ve said my piece and I appreciate you giving me the chance to do so. I respect your choice and disregard my style in doing so. For that (style) accept my apologies.

  21. saur kraut, so you are willing to say right here that every republican candidate except ron paul have good morals, good judgement, good motives, corrupt free, for the people. Is that what your saying? And Ron paul is the only crazy one who is way off base and is out of touch with reality? Is this true? Because how do you think this country got to this point, you could start by people like you who are so afraid of real change that you are willing to vote for the lesser evil and continue the empire. You are actually willing to vote for a guiliani or a mccain because they don’t use big words and want to eradicate all terrorist from planet earth, they want to expand the size of government and limit civil liberties and turn life into something out of the book 1984. If thats your way of ending our countris turmoil. Very intelligent you are.

  22. It’s been quite a few days now and still no official word on the caucus results. There are a few reasons for this and for anyone who still is interested I’ll try and explain why.

The easy part is the provisional ballots. The date to register as a Republican was nov 29th. but the LOGOP only used a list that included people who had registered as of the 1st. So all the supports who Registered between the 1st and 29th had to cast provisional ballots. It is presumed that most of these were Ron Paul supporters. Furthermore, some of the Delagetes for Ron Paul were also forced to cast Provisional votes. None of the Provisional votes have been released that I know of. This is one of the official reasons for the delay. The second reason is a little more complicated

It goes something like this. When you vote in their caucus it is not for your candidate of choice but for a delagate. These delagates then go on to vote for delagetes later at the state level. Depending on whether the later primary has a consensus their vote will either determine 20 or 42 delagates who will go to the national convention. Most likely no candidate will get enough votes in the later primary to garner the 51% needed for a consensus. Therefore, the caucus delagates will determine 42 delagates not 20.

Now I’ll back up a little. When you go to the caucus to vote you are voting for a delagate as a said. However, you are supposed to know which delagate to vote for becasue the candidates’ name and picture is on a peice of paper or ticket. This ticket included the names of the candidates delagets and a little info on each candidate. The combination of the candidate and his delagetes is called a slate.

In this caucus for the first time and most likely last time delages where actually allowed to be on more than one slate. This came about with the Ronald and Nancy Reagan slate that was titled pro-life pro-familly. The Reagan slate included delagetes for Guiliani, Huckabee and McCain. However, most of the people who voted for the delagetes on the Reagan slate did not know that the same delagates were also on the slate for Guilioni, Huckabee, and McCain. They thought they were voting for delagates who where uncommited or basically none of the above.

So this is the situation we have now. The most votes were cast for the Reagan/uncommited/none of the above. However, sinse McCain had the same exact delagetes (same persons) on two differen slates some of these delagates got enough votes to go to the state and cast thier vote. But who are they supposed to vote for McCain or Reagan? No one knows however, becasue they were on McCains slate they have unofficialy declare McCain the winner because more of his delagates have recieved enough votes to go on to the state and cast a vote for an actual candidate. But, his delagates arn’t really his if more people voted for the Reagon slate than the McCain slate. All delagates are uncommited and can vote for who they please, but most vote for the candidate that put them on the slate. This is the first time that Louisiana has allowed delagates to be placed on two different slates. I suspect it will be the last considering the confusion.

So, in a nutshell this is where we are. Most likely Ron Paul got the most votes that where actually cast for a candidate. Reagan got the most votes cast for a slate. And McCain got the most delagetes of any candidate because his delagates recieved votes from people voting for his and Reagan’s slate.

If anyone cares or is still confused just ask and i’ll try and confuse you (I mean clarify) this a little more.

    Peace, Brad Smith

  23. Ps. sorry for the misspelling I never could spell without a spellchecker. I might have gotten a few numbers mixed up too (but not by much). I was going from memory and its late and I had a couple. Ive also got more excuses if you need them.

    Peace!

  24. Ps. sorry for the misspelling I never could spell without a spellchecker.

No worries on something so silly. This is a blog; I don’t pretend that it’s journalism perfected. ;o)

  25. Ok,

I know that Ron Paul is not a pure libertarian. However, do you really think that fascism or socialism is a better alternative. MSM has a real problem with with Ron Paul because he messes up their game plan. Do you realize how concentrated the ownership of MSM is? Think about Gannett and Newscorp. The GOP has their own interest (think about SPP). I thought that civil liberties were important to libertarians. Ron Paul may not be the perfect libertarian candidate, but at least Ayn Raynd would not roll over in her grave for Ron Paul as she would for Alan Greenspan.

  26. je246,
I’m with you and you may have noticed that I’ve already contributed the max allowed to the Paul campaign.
