Park in a fire lane and you might get towed, even if you are a cop

This might be the funniest thing I read all day.

Police said officers responded to the Kempton Downs apartments on a domestic disturbance call, reported KPTV in Portland, Ore.

When Officer Tyson Conroy returned to his patrol car, he noticed a tow truck driver had hooked up another officer’s marked car to the truck, according to police.

Officer Tom Pohlman said he was surprised to see his car hooked up to the truck.

“I asked him, ‘What are you doing?” Pohlman said. “And he said I was parked in a fire lane.”

Steven Syverson, 32, was ordered to release the car. He eventually did, but police said he otherwise refused to cooperate with them.

Syverson locked himself in the tow truck and then called his dispatchers, asking them to call police, according to officers.

What part of “just doing my job” don’t these people understand? (Ok, there was some mention about a ticket the driver had received prior to the incident.) It’s bad enough the tow truck driver lost his job over this, but he was arrested and sadly, there’s talk of criminal charges.

Santa cops in Calif. town pull over good drivers

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Happy holidays. Now pull over
to the side of the road.

Motorists may be in for a surprise if they spot
flashing red lights in their rearview mirrors in this
Sacramento suburb during the holiday season.

Police are stopping law-abiding motorists and
rewarding their good driving with $5 Starbucks gift
    cards.

A traffic officer came up with the idea to “promote
the holiday spirit and enhance goodwill between the
traffic unit and the motoring public,” police Sgt. Tim
    Curran said.

Local businesses donated money to buy the gift cards.

“They raised a substantial amount of money,” Curran
said. “They’ll be pulling over a lot of people.”

  2. re the Santa stops: It’s all nice that businesses donated the cash for the gift cards, but it still seems a waste of resources to have the officer and his vehicle used for such a gimmick.

A $5 Starbucks gift card wouldn’t be enough to please me after being pulled over unnecessarily. (Not that I’d ever be pulled over for my great, law-abiding driving.)

It’ll be interesting to see how many arrests come out of such stops.

  3. I’d be pretty pissed that they wasted my time for a crappy starbucks $5 gift certificate.

If I owned a business that competes with Starbucks that would make me even less pleased.

Or what if I was busy and trying to get somewhere on time? Thanks, officer.

Plus, some people might find getting pulled over to be traumatic. They could give someone a heart attack. Well maybe that’s pushing it, but still.

And Miche you are an awesome driver. If I had the money and you had the time and wanted to, you would be my chauffeur for sure.

  4. And Miche you are an awesome driver.

I think I drive awesomely too but I wasn’t nicknamed Michelle Andretti for nothing so there’d probably no risk of me getting pulled over for anything other than a ticket.
