Libertarian Lady is homesick
I passed my holiday weekend living vicariously through my family in NOLA. The city that Katrina government built levees nearly destroyed hasn’t lost its heart or partying vibe. Each day this weekend, I sat as a mere spectator listening across the phone line, to the fetes thrown by my sister and my daughter’s mother-in-law.
This homesickness is not for a piece of land. It is for a certain sense of community and culture; a community and culture that I’ve found nowhere but New Orleans. I noticed it first last week when I decided to walk to the gym listening to Fats Domino on my IPod. It was nearly 100 degrees when I started the 6 miles round trip walk and I was definitely close to dead when I started the walk home after having completed a hard core leg workout. This atheist had visions of heaven while hearing “Walking to New Orleans” that day.
I do believe it’s time for a visit home.
Here’s Fats at Storyville.

That video was great! Words can’t express my happiness when I heard Fats survived the weather and flooding. He’s one of my favorites all the way back to the day!
I’m glad that I was able to share it colhogan1. I grew up in the 70’s and even though that decade was years after the songs were made famous, they were part of the soundtrack of my youth.
I see someone is impersonating my old buddy Col Hogan.
Great stuff, thanks for posting it.
I’m vacation sick for the New Orleans of yesterday, too.
