Ron Paul on freedom circa 1988
Way back in ‘88 Ron Paul was the Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. president. During that candidacy, he was a guest on Morton Downey Jr.’s show and the subject was the War on Drugs. This was back during the crack “epedimic” and the drug warriors were peddling every ridiculous argument they could to whip up fear. The audience and the host were lynch mob like in fashion and it appears that the most reasonable voices had to shout to be heard over the din. Here is a clip from the show:
When Ron Paul talked about freedom and personal responsibility, he was absolutely on target. I have said many times that the WoSDs is the biggest affront to liberty that I can think of. It robs us of the fruit of our labor and doesn’t do a damn thing to curb addiction.
If you are concerned about Ron Paul calling a misinformed kid “chubby,” take a look at the rest of the video here, here and here. Although Dr. Paul tried to, there is no way to reason with brainwashed fools. The other day, I called Congressman Paul and the Libertarian Party prescient with regard to the War on Terror. It seems that they were correct on the self-ownership issue as well.
Hat tips: hit & run and disinter

Ron Paul isn’t a panacea…and personal responsibility isn’t a political objective. our society has bought into the “life should be easy idea. We need every new trinket of technology to come down the pike. Wego rabid over the Alli pill. We’re sick. We’re decadent, and what the hey, if we need a ron paul to save us from ourselves we are quite probably doomed
I don’t need anybody to save me from myself, but I’d love to have a person who believes in freedom and responsibility for president. Then perhaps the government would stop using me to “save” other people.
We are indeed doomed if the average person doesn’t wake up take responsibility for his own life.
welcome to the stand in the corner and throw a fit I WANT IT NOW generation. I can’t afford to pay for it, but I want it.Responsibility begins at home
nice blog…i like Ron, but I like Ralph to. If you can convince corporate America to quit buying elections I’ll pledge my vote to one of them
Responsibility does start at home and that’s why I work so hard to teach the girls to be careful with consumption and to pay attention to what’s being done in their names. It’s amazing what you can teach in seemingly menial tasks. The little one (almost 16) helped me sand and refinish a whole patio of deck furniture yesterday. We were worn out and sunburned, but the furniture looks as good as it did when we bought it. While lying in the grass afterward, she told me that most of her friends’ parents would’ve just bought new. And she was happy to know that her efforts saved money and resources.
On the politics side, the little one learned first hand this week how seemingly inoccuous legislation really affects everyday situations. We had to get ISD permission for her to take a summer class at the local community college.
Generation Instant Gratification has been around for several years though. Thankfully, I’ve one kiddo raised, married and self-sufficient and one to go. I’d be terrified to start over.
mine are 17, 15, and 13. They constantly challenge me, and my ideals. I am gratified that they are independent thinkers, and do not conform to our society.
Thats a lot of work. the patio thing. I’m a painter with the united steel workers. I’m not a joiner so its the only organization I belong to. It amazes me that labor panders to the democrats. They should be salivating over old Ron.
I enjoy your blog. You write well, and believe in what you write.
Labor has been long told that business wants to crush them and that all forms of capitalism are bad. Then, we have a government that is intertwined with corporate interests and the media paints it as a “free market” system. There is hardly anything in our public trading that resembles the free market and the misrepresentation of what is confuses people who can’t (OK, won’t) research the subject for themselves.
Class envy will divide even the nicest of people. Envy is so ingrained that Moses brought down a law to deal with it. In today’s climate, envy distracts the people from the real issues and it is easier to hate somebody that you “think” has a better life than it is to hate the groups trying to “help” you.
Jeez, that must seem really OT when I should have simply said that I agree about the Democrat/ labor marriage bed.
Oh, and thank you about the blog. It’s nice to hear something besides, “YOU ARE A STUPID CUNT AND SHOULD STFU!”
Sorry for the rough language, but somebody actually said that. Of course, that person didn’t actually address anything that I had said.
LOL….I can be a little opinionated so I get the occassional intellectual at my blog as well. I’ve been told I should kill myself. He didn’t address what I said either.
sure sure, i pimp your blog and you stop writing.
posting something tonight ;o)
good…your #24 on growing blogs…they like you…they really like you
So I’m in Tucson and my straight ahead Republican engineer brother-in-law says so, what do you think about this Ron Paul guy? I like him. he says.
Coulda knocked me over with a glass of decent cab.
