Here’s a golf hazard you don’t see every day

copter.jpgA military helicopter crashed today on the fairway of the Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield, TX. Mansfield High School’s girls’ golf team, who were practicing at the time, had debris scattered inches from their bodies.

The helicopter appears to be an ARH, which is a military version of Bell Helicopter’s commercial chopper, the Bell 407.

According to Bell’s website, the ARH-70A is 34.5 feet long and can travel up to 161 mph. Instead of two blades on its rotor, the military version of the chopper has four blades.

News video here.

I think that I will stick to the Golden Tee game in my favorite bar. My score is ok there, the temperature is nice and I don’t have to worry about things falling out of the sky.

Update: I should have mentioned last night that both pilots were quite experienced and were able to walk away from the wreckage.

  1. How many strokes do you get if this happens? All joking aside – it’s good to know that the team is okay. How about the pilot?

  2. According to the news clip, both pilots are fine. Thanks for bringing up the question; I have updated the post.

  3. Thank for making this valuable information available to the public.
